Fischer, Orb's Year 925-928

Orb's Year 925
Sheldon had come home empty-handed again.  It was too cold for the fish to bite.  How was he supposed to provide for his family when the lakes were frozen over?

"It's not all that bad," Nicole tried to reassure him.

"How's that?" Sheldon asked glumly.

Nicole sauntered closer and winked.  "George won't be home for another hour.  That gives us plenty of time..."
Suddenly Sheldon was feeling much better.
George came home with Kitty Startor, eager to make a good impression.  He wasn't too surprised that his Dad and Nicole were holed up in their bedroom.  That's were they seemed to spend most of their spare time.
That worked out in George's favor.  He had high hopes for his afternoon with Kitty!

Much later that night, Sheldon checked in on George before retiring for the night.  Sitting down at the foot of his bed, he read a few chapters from George's favorite book.  To him, George was still his little boy!

Orb's Year 926
"George, I see you haven't been completing your assignments," Sheldon cornered his son before instructional school.

"Dad, I don't need to do it every day. Nobody else does!" George grumbled.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.  Without knowledge, we cannot accomplish the smallest of tasks," Sheldon began lecturing.

George rolled his eyes.  He'd heard this speech a million times.  Resigned to the inevitable, George plopped down and started doing his work as his Dad waxed poetic about fish. Stupid fish.

Nicole woke up late that morning and slowly got up.  Now that she was pregnant, she was slower getting started in the morning.
She called out to Sheldon, but discovered an empty house.  Figuring he was outside with their newly adopted stray, Mutt, she headed out to find him.

"There you are," she said smiling.  "I was looking for you."

Sheldon kissed his wife's cheek.  "Good morning, sweetheart.  Would you like me to make you breakfast?"

Nicole turned green and put a hand on her stomach.  "Don't even mention food to me right now!"

Sheldon frowned, "I know you have morning sickness, but I think eating some fruit would be good for you."

Nicole smiled and stroked her worried husband's cheek.  "Thank you.  I'll see if I can nibble some strawberries from the Farmer's."
Sheldon watched his wife walk back inside and leaned down to rub Mutt's belly.  "I'm going to go take care of my wife.  You be a good girl!"

Orb's Year 927
"Sheldon! It's time!" Nicole called out as she gritted her teeth.

Sheldon hurriedly woke up and fretted over Nicole's laboring.
Soon, his second son, little Henry was born.
Sheldon loved having a baby in the house again.  After work, stinking of fish and stench, he hurried inside to see his son.

"Shhh... he's sleeping," Nicole cautioned as he walked into the room."

Sheldon gazed down at his sleeping son and squeezed Nicole's hand.  "You've never looked more beautiful," he told her.

Nicole frowned.  "Oh please. I'm a mess!" she said, her hands automatically going to smooth her tangled hair.  With a newborn, she'd hardly had time to see to any of her personal needs!
Sheldon pulled Nicole into his arms and kissed her soundly.  "Never more beautiful!" he said as she giggled.

"Blessed Orb! Don't do that in my room!" George scowled when the giggling awoke him.  Throwing the pillow over  his head, he rolled over and plugged his ears.

Thankfully, the giggling receded to their room and he sighed with relief.

Orb's Year 928
The Fischers loved having Mutt in their family.  She was such a sweet-tempered dog.
Eager to please and eager to show affection.  Mutt would wander from room to room to be near to Henry. She would even stand guard when he was getting a bath!
The only problem was that a wolf from the forest started sniffing around Mutt.  No matter how many times they shooed the wolf away, he always came back.  Sheldon wondered aloud if perhaps the wolf was Mutt's mate from the time she was a stray.

Nicole didn't care.  It unsettled her to see the wolf so near their house every night. She worried about Henry getting hurt.  She redoubled her efforts to keep the blasted animal away from her family.
Now if only Mutt would stop eating so much!

Henry wailed at the foot of his mother's bed until she finally sighed, "Okay! Okay! I'm getting up!"  She seemed to always be exhausted!

George knocked on the door and peeked his head in.  "I'll grab him, if you want," he offered.

Nicole sighed with pleasure, "Would you? I'll be up in a minute," she promised.

George lifted his little brother up in his arms and led him away.  "Come on, little one. Let's let Mother get some more rest."
Killing some time before school, George attempted to teach Henry a few words.  When the carriage came to pick him up, he kissed his brother on the top of the head and hurried off.
Nicole grabbed a bottle for Henry and sighed.  She wished she knew why she was so tired!
That night, Sheldon looked out over the lake with Mutt.  "The ice should thaw soon, Mutt.  Soon we'll be fishing again!"
