Taylor, Orb's Year 933-936

Orb's Year 933
"Are you sure you won't reconsider?" Thomas asked, already knowing the answer.
"I grow weary of your delay," Alec Reeves said with his arms crossed.  "Do you wish to renege on our agreement?"

Thomas shook his head.  "No, of course not.  It's just..." he sighed, "She's our daughter."

Alec arched a brow, "I am well aware of that," he said dryly.  "And it is for that reason I take no offense.  Now please, go collect the girl."
Thomas and Barika stood at the door as Alec walked away with their eldest daughter.
"We'll see you soon!" Barika called out as Alec and Addison clambered into the carriage.  "I love you!"

They watched as the carriage turned the corner.

Thomas put his hand on his wife's shoulder and said simply, "They're gone."
Inside, Barika turned to her husband's arms.  "Are you sure we made the right decision?" she asked tearfully.  "He's so much older than her!"

Thomas held Barika tight, and squeezed his eyes shut. "You don't tell the Reeves 'no,' Barika.  You know that as well as I do."  Alec Reeves controlled all the shops in town and a bad review from him could be the death blow to your business.  "Besides, she'll be well-provided for," he said, attempting to convince himself, as well as his wife.  "Reeves collects a percentage of all the community shops for taxes."
Thomas headed to the bedroom, ready to lay down.  As he walked, his shoulders ached and he attempted to ease the pain.  Another sign of old age to go with the white hair, he thought sourly.
Barika bustled in and made a show of straightening the bed sheets.

"Quit fussing, Barika.  Come to me," Thomas said.
Barika stopped fidgeting and slid into bed beside her husband.  She curled into his arms.  "Are you sure we did the right thing?" she asked anxiously.

Orb's Year 934
A year had passed and Brooklyn knew that her parents worried about Addison, even though they'd seen for themselves how she wanted for nothing.  Brooklyn sighed.  It just wasn't the same here.  Everyone seemed sadder and quieter.

And then Daddy bought the piano...

Music and dance exploded in the house!  Little by little, everyone began to laugh again.  It warmed Brooklyn's heart!
"May I cut in?" Thomas asked, whisking Mama away into his arms.  Cedrick watched Daddy and Mama dance and decided he wanted a wife just like his Mama!

Orb's Year 935
Brooklyn was walking around the store, helping people with their questions when she ran into the most delightful woman.  "Aren't you... the Abbess?" she asked with wonder.

Abbess Belinda smiled and nodded, "Yes, I am. Have you been to the Abbey, my dear?"
Brooklyn blushed.  "Oh no! Not yet! But I've always longed to go.  No, I read the Path to Enlightenment by Abbess Abigail and I became so interested in the Celestial Orb."  Pausing, she glanced around.  "Do you think you could stay for tea? I would so love to ask you a few questions!"

Abbess Belinda smiled, "Of course, I would love to stay for a spell."
Brooklyn was ecstatic!  She couldn't believe Abbess Belinda was in her home and teaching her privately about the Celestial Orb!  She was ever so patient and knowledgeable.

Glancing out the window, Abbess smiled.  "It's time for me to leave, but feel free to come to the Abbey whenever the mood strikes you!  I would love to speak with you again!"

Orb's Year 936
"Now that you're getting older, I expect you to help in the shop, Cedrick."

Cedrick nodded dutifully.  "Of course, father."
Thomas couldn't be prouder of his son.  He seemed to be a natural when it came to the shop.  He was congenial with the customers...
...was quite organized when it came to restocking...
...and responsible when it came to calculating the money due.

Brooklyn closed the Path of Enlightenment by Abbess Abigail for what felt like the hundredth time.  It was clear to her what she needed to do...

Pacing impatiently, she waited for Abbess Belinda to come.

Finally, when the Abbess was standing in front of her, Belinda launched into her explanation.   It had never been more clear to her that her path was one of Enlightenment!

Abbess Belinda nodded kindly and said that she would make arrangements.
"Oh mama! You'll never guess what!" Brooklyn said excitedly.  "I'm going to become an Abbess!!"
