Baker, Orb's Year 937-940

Orb's Year 937-938
Sebastian Waite just couldn't stop kissing his wife!

He felt like he'd been kept from her arms for far too long while he'd served his time on the Nightwatch.

He was lucky that Fancy had waited for him!
And how fast the children were growing!  Already little Hansel Cook ran around with his girls, shrieking and running around.
There were no quiet children's games in their household, it seemed.

For a man used to plenty of quiet - it certainly was a lot to get used to!
Thankfully, he was alone most the of the day since he was released from his position in the Nightwatch.  So used to spending every waking moment working, it was odd to find himself at loose ends...

Orb's Year 939
Gretel had always been such a serious child, preferring to read the paper than play games.  Becoming a teen did not change that.
She'd never seemed to really fit in with her twin cousins... or even her younger brother, Hansel.  But, she loved them and watched out for them.
But, she knew that she needed to do more.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" her mother asked for once again as they headed to Taveryn's Kitchen.

"Yes, mama.  I want to help.  I'm old enough to help!"

"But you're still a child," Fanny argued.  "I want you to enjoy your youth."

"I know, mama.  But this is what I want.  I want to work. I want to help support the family."

Fanny bit her lip and studied her daughter.  "Alright, go see your Uncle Connor."
And so with her mother looking on, Gretel outlined all the reasons that her uncle needed her at the Taveryn's Kitchen.  She'd start at the bottom and work her way up!

Orb's Year 940
Fancy couldn't believe her daughters were already teenagers!  They were growing up so fast!
Sweet, sensible Gene in the purple dress and bold, flirty Gena in the grey.    They were the spitting image of Fancy!
With such a full house, Keith & Fanny knew that it was time to move into their own space.

"Perhaps we should move back to the home I was raise in," Keith suggested.  "Fancy has Sebastian to care for her now."

Fanny hated to leave the only home she'd ever known, but also knew that there just wasn't room in their small little Baker cottage for such a big family.  Sadly, she agreed.

"Just wait until I tell my step-mother. I'm sure she'll be very pleased to meet her grandchildren!" Keith said excitedly.

Farmer, Orb's Year 937-940

Orb's Year 937
"Don't be late for school!" Cade called out as Garth headed for the door.

Garth shrugged, "I might be a little late. But, I will make it.  I wanted to tend the plants first."

Cade scowled and hurriedly finished his breakfast.  His fool son spent too much time tending the plants and not enough time tending to himself!
Garth smiled as he cleared the weeds from the base of the plants.  It was a cool, crisp morning after the rains.  The plants would love the rain and hopefully they would have a good harvest this season.

He couldn't explain the enjoyment and feeling of peace as he worked the soil.  It was almost as if the land was a part of his blood!

"Sorry I'm late arising this morning," Braden said as he stepped from the master room.
Uma smiled.  "I saved a plate for you.  Go eat!"

Braden kissed his wife's cheek and then stroked her tenderly.  "Always looking out for me. But I must hurry and get to the plants."

"There's no need, Garth and Cade already tended the plants this morning."

Braden's shoulders fell.  "These tired bones do not wake as early as they used to," he said with some regret.

Helga Farmer played with her little sister.  She helped watch Ingrid while the adults did their work.  Her mama said that was her chore.  She wished she had a better chore!
Ingrid sighed and jumped up.  "Come on, Helga! Let's go outside! It's beautiful!"

Helga made a face.  She hated playing outside! "But it's muddy! I'll dirty my shoes!"

"Oh, don't be such a sissy, Helga! It'll be fun!"
Reluctantly, Helga allowed Ingrid to pull her outside for a game of toss.

Once Garth came home and worked in the fields, Ingrid watched him avidly.  "What's he doing Helga?"

"He's tending to all the plants..." Ingrid explained the work her cousin was doing to ensure healthy plants.

"I want to help!" Ingrid called out, running for Garth.

Helga sighed and followed along after her little sister.  Now her shoes would really get muddy!
Garth grinned as his little cousins ran around watering the plants and checking for bugs.  In truth, it was a good deal of help!
Soon, he and his father were in a discussion about the crop rotation.  Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the girls heading back in.  "Thank you girls! You are true Farmers!" he called out.

Ingrid grinned proudly while Helga merely rolled her eyes and shooed her little sister inside.

Cade flung his arm around his son's shoulder.  "We should head inside and have a bite of supper as well.  Your mother has probably waited up for us!"
When they came in and set down, Shanna put warm plates of steaming food down in front of them and then sat to listen to finish their discussion about the fields.

Perhaps they'd give her a chance to give them her big news...

Orb's Year 938
It seemed a blink of an eye and Shanna was delivering her present to Cade -
a beautiful little girl with steel grey-eyes like her mother!  They named her Harlow.

Helga sighed when she realized that she would be responsible for another little girl while the adults were busy.  It didn't seem fair that she should have to work so hard!
At least her parents didn't mind her inviting over a few friends for her Orb's Year Day!
She and Lydia danced around the maypole, giggling and laughing.  Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that she'd caught someone's eye...
And Casey Potter was soooo handsome!

"Come on, Garth! You should ask her," Benji Potter whispered fervently, attempting to pull Garth over to the festivities.

Garth rolled his eyes and shrugged off his friend.  "Quiet!" he said harshly.  "I'll do it in my own time!"

Benji shook his head.  "What? When you're old and grey?!  She's always coming around.  She likes you!"
"Shhh!" Garth whispered again and then startled when Lydia called out to them.

"Benji! Garth! Hi!" she said as she came nearer.  "I haven't seen you guys in awhile!"
The three friends sunk down to talk while Benji continued to prod and poke to try to get Garth to take a chance and ask Lydia out.

Not happening, Garth thought.  He didn't know what he'd do if she said no!

Orb's Year 939
Garth didn't have enough time to worry about girls.  It was harvest time!
And it seemed like his work was never done.  There was always something that needed doing around the farm... especially to support their large family!
Especially now that his father and his uncle were getting on in their years.  Uncle Braden seemed to move slower and slower every day, often nodding off while reading a book or lingering over a meal.
And his father... it hurt Garth to see his father age right before his eyes!
It didn't seem right that Cade should have a head full of grey hair and wrinkles upon his face..

Helga was no help in the fields, either.  She often invited her friends over to play when she should've been doing her chores!  Garth kept a close eye on the boys that seemed to linger around her. His cousin was getting up to no good!
"Come dance with me, Alec," Helga begged as she grabbed Alec's hand and pulled him with her to the maypole.  "Dance!"

Orb's Year 940
"You never play with me anymore," Ingrid fumed at her older sister.

"Ingrid, I have other friends.  Besides, you're a big girl now! You can play with Harlow!" Helga retorted.

"Aw, Harlow's just a baby!" Ingrid argued, pouting terribly.

"Then go help Garth in the fields! You love getting muddy and dirty!"

Pausing, Helga listened to the cries coming from the nursery.  "Hold on, I'll be right back. I've got to go check on Harlow."
A few moments later, sweet little Harlow came crawling from the room quickly.
"Just a moment, little rascal!" Cade called out as he swept his daughter up in his arms.  His sweet little girl was the spitting image of her mother and so beautiful and precious to him!

"Here, hand her to me and I'll put her to bed," Helga said, reaching her arms out for the small little toddler.
Cade turned and saw his wife behind him.  Grabbing her arms, he smiled at her lovingly.  Her hair might be tinted grey with age, but he loved her as fiercely as he did 16 years ago when they married.

Garth woke early the next morning and pulled the harvest from the plants.  The vegetables gleamed in the sunlight.  This was their best harvest yet! he thought eagerly.
Now to package it up and take to Gemma Grocer!

Reeves, Orb's Year 937-940

Orb's Year 937
Addison Reeves passed her time sewing, reading or sometimes writing in a journal.  She was unused to such idleness!  But, her husband had forbidden her to take a job and he didn't need help running a business.

What was there for her to do?!
Hearing his footsteps approach, she glanced up and smiled.
"You're home!" she said excitedly.  She was always happy when he returned how because it was so lovely to talk to him!  Although he was quite timid at times, he had a very dry sense of humor that often had her laughing.

Secretly she prayed for a baby so that she would have something to do!

In no time at all, her wishes were answered!
While relaxing before dinner, as he caught up with the current events, Addison told him that they would soon have a child.  She'd been surprised when he'd set the paper aside and hurried over to her side.
He placed his hand upon her belly and waited a moment.

"I think it's still too early to feel him kick," Addison said, putting her hand over his.
Alec nodded and kissed her hand.  "You've made me the happiest man alive," he said solemnly.  "We must celebrate!"
"I have always wanted to come here!" Addison said when they were seated at the Taveryn's Kitchen.  "This is a dream come true!"

"Order whatever you like!" Alec said indulgently.  Especially now that Addison was pregnant, she would be needing all the nourishment that she could get!
The Taveryn's Kitchen was just as incredible as Addison had imagined.  "Thank you, Alec," she said softly before they went home.   She felt like a pampered princess!

Orb's Year 938
Throughout Addison's pregnancy, Alec remained thoughtful and indulgent.  Anything she'd talked about wanting or needing, he'd had delivered as soon as possible.  He truly doted upon her.
Being so pampered during her pregnancy made the time fly by quickly.  Too soon, she felt the labor pains begin and she labored to bring her child into the world.
She smiled when she gave birth to her first born son, Brooks Reeves, with beautiful brown hair and light blue eyes like her father, Thomas Taylor.
She'd been shocked when she'd soon delivered a little girl, as well.  They named their beautiful little girl Chandra Reeves.

It took awhile for Addison to notice, but Alec seemed to be working all the time now.  He entered numbers into logs to track the taxes that the merchants owed...
He met with the merchants and his inspectors...
He answered the messages that were sent to him and settled little squabbles....
She felt even more alone now than when she'd had the babies.  Perhaps getting out and about for a small time would make her feel better, she thought.  She grabbed some artwork and a beautiful vase at the Marchant Wares....
And she'd picked up some fresh fish and a beautiful baked blancmange at the Grocer's Delicatessen!
And she wasn't surprised when she'd returned home and Alec informed her that he needed to go out to meet with his inspector.

Really, it seemed that he had less time for her and the babies now than when she'd been pregnant!

Orb's Year 939
It felt like the years flew by quickly, but soon they were celebrating Brooks and Chandra's 2nd Orb's Year day!  Her children were growing up so fast!
And it was so nice to see all her family and friends to celebrate the day with them!
Sweet little Chandra was the cutest little girl in the world.  Addison thought that when she grew up, she would look like her daddy!
And her little Brooks was such a handsome devil, too!
"Come see your Grandma," Barika said as she cuddled her sweet granddaughter in her arms.  Her twin brother kissed her cheek and told her that he would walk her home since the hour grew so late.  Sighing, Barika set her grandchild down.  It'd been too long since she'd held a sweet little baby in her arms!
"Goodnight, Master Reeves," Barika said as she patted her grandson on the head.  "You take care of your sister!"

Orb's Year 940
Addison waved goodbye as Alec headed off to work for the day.  "We'll see you for dinner," she said.

Alec glanced at his hour-glass pendant and frowned.  He was running late.  "Actually, I might be a little late.  Don't wait up for me," he said.

Addison had wanted to ask what he thought would take so long, but he was in a hurry to leave and the children were already calling for her at the top of the stairs.
"Ma... ma.... ma... ma..." Chandra called, prepared to break into tears soon if she didn't receive a bottle.  Addison hurried upstairs to see to their needs.
As Brooks was the heir, Addison spent more time attempting to teach him to talk and walk.
Chandra didn't seem to mind.  She enjoyed playing castle!
Alec had been right. He was late, Addison thought as she laid her children to bed.  Sighing, she remembered wistfully how attentive Alec had been during her pregnancy.  Just then, she heard him behind her.

"I came in to kiss the kids goodnight," he said softly.  "How was your day?"

Addison just moved into his arms and held him tight.  "I've missed you," she mumbled into his shirt.

"I've missed you, too," he said, squeezing her tighter.  "I hate the hours that have kept me from you.  Hopefully that will change soon..."
